Tomorrow's War - The Ezekiel Prophecy

What is the Ezekiel 38 War, Aka the Gog and Magog War and why does it concern you!

Prologue: Israel’s Rebirth and Setting the Foundations:

In Ezekiel 37, God tells Ezekiel that Israel will be reborn, and that the Jews will come from the all over the globe to their land. Israel will be one nation, not two, Israel and Judah, as it had been.

In 1948, Israel retook it homeland, and ever since there has been an exponential influx of Jews to the land of Israel. Chart provided by Worldometer.

In 2009, Israel discovered large natural gas resources in the Mediterranean. Since then, Israel has become a major natural gas exporter. I believe this is the spoil spoken of in Ezekiel 38 and 39.

What is the Gog and Magog war?

In the 6th century BC and during Babylonian captivity, Ezekiel, a Hebrew captive, was called upon by God to be a prophet. God told him that a number of nations would rise up when Israel was safe and prosperous, to despoil Israel of its riches.

How will it start: (Update: 10-25-2023)

The destruction of Damascus is often pointed to, by Bible scholars, as the ignition point of the Gog and Magog Invasion. I have written a post that dives deeply into the prophecy of Isaiah, and lays out the fact for you to decide for yourself!

Oracle of Damascus - Isaiah Seventeen:

The Belligerents:

Ezekiel 28:1-3, 5-6 → Now the word of the Lord came to me, saying,

2 “Son of man, set your face against Gog, of the land of Magog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal, and prophesy against him,

3 and say, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “Behold, I am against you, O Gog, the prince of Rosh, Meshech, and Tubal…

5 Persia, Ethiopia, and Libya are with them, all of them with shield and helmet;

6 Gomer and all its troops; the house of Togarmah from the far north and all its troops—many people are with you.

The Leader:

Gog is the leader of the strongest nation (presumably Russia) of the coalition. Gog is the name for the man in the prophecy, not the man’s real name.

Countries:

Rosh* (Russia) - Meshech* (Moscow/East Russia) - Tubal* (Tobolsk/West Russia)

Magog* (The ‘stan countries)

Persia (Iran & Iraq)

Ethiopia (Sudan and/or Ethiopia)

Libya

Gomer; Togarmah (Turkey)

(* Precise locations are debated.)

Since 2017, Russia, Turkey, and Iran have military presence in Syria, on the boarder of Israel.

And Libya is the only African nation that does not recognize Israel. Sudan reluctantly ‘normalized’ relations with Israel in 2021. But will it continue to do so?

Ezekiel 38:10-12→ Thus says the Lord God: “On that day it shall come to pass that thoughts will arise in your (Gog’s) mind, and you will make an evil plan:

11 You will say, ‘I will go up against a land of unwalled villages; I will go to a peaceful people, who dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates’—

12 to take plunder and to take booty, to stretch out your hand against the waste places that are again inhabited, and against a people gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods, who dwell in the midst of the land.

Though Gog thinks its his own strategy, the LORD will drive him to attack Israel for no other reason than an economic conquest.

Where will it take place?

Ezekiel 38:14-16 → “Therefore, son of man, prophesy and say to Gog, ‘Thus says the Lord God: “On that day when My people Israel dwell safely, will you not know it?

15 Then you will come from your place out of the far north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great company and a mighty army.

16 You will come up against My people Israel like a cloud, to cover the land. It will be in the latter days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me, when I am hallowed in you, O Gog, before their eyes.”

Little old Israel, with 7,850 square miles of land (a little smaller than Vermont), will be assaulted with great force by the coalition of Russia, Iran, Turkey, Libya, and Sudan.

Why it has to be now!

I mean now, as in this modern age, not times past.

Israel has been attacked many times throughout it’s existence. But this prophecy can only be fulfilled in this modern day. Here are several reasons:

Ezekiel 38:8, 11-12, 14 → 8 ...In the latter years you will come into the land of those brought back from the sword and gathered from many people on the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate; they were brought out of the nations, and now all of them dwell safely.

13 Sheba, Dedan, the merchants of Tarshish, and all their young lions will say to you, ‘Have you come to take plunder? Have you gathered your army to take booty, to carry away silver and gold, to take away livestock and goods, to take great plunder?’

14 when My people Israel dwell safely…

Notice the points:

  • In the latter years” - Meaning not in the near future of Ezekiel, in 6th-Century BC (600-501 BC).

  • the land of those brought back from the sword and gathered from many people” – This can only be referencing the the return of Jews to Israel since 1948. Because the other times the Jews were taken captive they were taken to one nation, for instance Babylon or Persia. Never were they spread out all over the world as that had been for the last thousand or so years.

  • “on the mountains of Israel, which had long been desolate” – The times Israel was taken captive, by Assyria and by Babylon, a remnant was left to maintain the land. So the land was never desolate, except for the Post-Medieval Age, when the Ottomans and Sultans warred over uncultivated desert lands.

  • a land of unwalled villages... to a peaceful people, who dwell safely, all of them dwelling without walls, and having neither bars nor gates” – Israel always had walled cities and strongholds. When Nehemiah returned from the Persian Empire, he rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. But notice, modern Israel; They have returned to their land, but build no walls. Jerusalem is the only city there that has walls, as far as I know, outside of a few archaeological sites.

  • the waste places that are again inhabited” – Again, the land was never a wasteland, like it was for the hundreds of years between Roman Occupation and the return of Israel.

  • and against a people gathered from the nations, who have acquired livestock and goods, who dwell in the midst of the land.” – Israel is more prosperous than it ever has, with the possible exception of King Solomon’s time. Instead of barren desert, it is lush and green. And the passage speaks of dwelling in the midst of the land, as the Jews do now, not some fringe group from the past.

  • Sheba, Dedan, the merchants of Tarshish, and all their young lions” Sheba and Dedan are translated as Southern Arabia (United Arab Emirates and Yemen, or maybe Saudi Arabia itself). Tarshish is translated to be Cypress, Spain, or a city accessible by the Red Sea.

  • Israel’s bordering neighbors are not prophesied to attack. Look, how they ar allied or non-existent:

    • Lebanon is in economic collapse and are overrun with Hezbollah (Iranian proxy),

    • Syria is war torn and hasn’t a leg to stand on,

    • Jordan has a Peace Treaty with Israel since 1994.

    • Egypt has a Peace Treaty with Israel since 1979.

    • Saudi Arabia, some sources say, to be on their way to joining the Abraham Accord

  • when My people Israel dwell safely” – Israel is safer now than they ever have been. According to Global Fire Power, Israel is 18h strongest nation in the world. That’s saying a lot concerning it is one of the smallest nations in the world.

  • Israel is spoken of as one nation. Not the split countries of Israel and Judah.

Also: The players are on the board, and pieces are moving.

  • Israel never had a natural resource, until 2004 when natural gas was discovered on the Mediterranean coast. Now Israel is a major natural gas supplier to Egypt and the Middle East. Russia is also a major natural gas exporter. It is my belief that, Russia will attack Israel for this reason, either to take the resource or to stop Israel from competing. (Note: Russia is economically unstable right now. War always balances an economy.)

  • Iran has never been so free to do as they please as they are right now.

  • Iraq has fallen to Iranian proxy ISIS.

  • The United States would not allow this attack on Israel. But the USA no longer has a presence or sway in the Middle East after the 2021 Administration’s Afghanistan scandal.

(Update: March 1, 2022)

Russia took issue over Ukraine's ownership of Luhansk and Donetsk and used this as an excuse to start the Russia-Ukraine War. Recently Russia is now debating Israel's sovereignty over the Golan Heights and Jerusalem, saying they belong to Syria. Syria is a 'puppet' nation of Russia. They will try to annex the Golan Heights and Jerusalem to Syria then back it up with an invasion.

Who will win?

Ezekiel 38:15-16 → Then you (Gog) will come from your place out of the far north, you and many peoples with you, all of them riding on horses, a great company and a mighty army.

16 You will come up against My people Israel like a cloud, to cover the land.

(Emphasis added)

According to Global Fire Power,

  • Russia is 2nd strongest nation,

  • Turkey is 13th,

  • Iran is 14th,

  • Libya is 72nd,

  • Sudan is 73rd,

Verses

  • Israel, that is 18th.

It looks pretty bleak for Israel, doesn’t it. Israel will not be able to defend themselves against such a mighty force. But they won’t have to… read what Ezekiel says:

Ezekiel 38:18-23 → “And it will come to pass at the same time, when Gog comes against the land of Israel,” says the Lord God, “that My fury will show in My face.

19 For in My jealousy and in the fire of My wrath I have spoken: ‘Surely in that day there shall be a great earthquake in the land of Israel,

20 so that the fish of the sea, the birds of the heavens, the beasts of the field, all creeping things that creep on the earth, and all men who are on the face of the earth shall shake at My presence. The mountains shall be thrown down, the steep places shall fall, and every wall shall fall to the ground.’

21 I will call for a sword against Gog throughout all My mountains,” says the Lord God. “Every man’s sword will be against his brother.

22 And I will bring him to judgment with pestilence and bloodshed; I will rain down on him, on his troops, and on the many peoples who are with him, flooding rain, great hailstones, fire, and brimstone.

23 Thus I will magnify Myself and sanctify Myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.”

(Emphasis added)

Ezekiel 39:3-6 → 3 Then I will knock the bow out of your (Gog) left hand, and cause the arrows to fall out of your right hand.

4 You shall fall upon the mountains of Israel, you and all your troops and the peoples who are with you; I will give you to birds of prey of every sort and to the beasts of the field to be devoured.

5 You shall fall on the open field; for I have spoken,” says the Lord God.

6 “And I will send fire on Magog and on those who live in security in the coastlands. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.

God destroys the coalition by several, inescapable methods.

  1. A great earthquake that shall shake the whole Earth. Leveling mountains and buildings.

  2. Chaos in the enemy ranks. Allies killing allies.

  3. Pestilence, a contagious or infectious epidemic disease that is virulent and devastating,

  4. Bloodshed,

  5. Flooding,

  6. Large hailstones,

  7. Fire,

  8. Brimstone (Translated as “Sulfur” but could be a meteoroid or something else entirely.) According to Firefighter Insider, – As the name “brimstone” hints at, sulfur will very readily catch on fire. The octet bonding structure of sulfur is easily broken under heat and sulfur has a low melting point, a low boiling point, and often sublimates (goes from solid to gas without passing through a liquid stage) when heated rapidly. When burned with oxygen, it forms sulfur dioxide a gas that was a major contributor to the phenomenon known as “acid rain”.

Could the great earthquake break open natural sulfur deposits, which in a war environment could easily catch fire? On that note, Israel is seeing a sudden rise in earthquakes. Chart provided by YNet News.

Why is it important?

Ezekiel 38:16 → You will come up against My people Israel like a cloud, to cover the land. It will be in the latter days that I will bring you against My land, so that the nations may know Me, when I am hallowed in you, O Gog, before their eyes.”

Ezekiel 38:23 → Thus I will magnify Myself and sanctify Myself, and I will be known in the eyes of many nations. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.”

Ezekiel 39:6 → “And I will send fire on Magog and on those who live in security in the coastlands. Then they shall know that I am the Lord.

God save Israel in such a miraculous way that no one will be able to deny His existence. He will destroy several of the strongest nations, who have cutting-edge military equipment, as one swats a fly.

This godless world will know beyond a doubt that the God of the Bible exists.

Why would God instigate this?

This question fall under the question: "Why does God allow bad things to happen?"

We live in a sin-diseased world. Everything is aging and dying and decaying. From galaxies, stars, and planets, to animals, humans, and plants, and down to atoms. That is why radioactive elements exist; Their atoms are unstable and decaying.

On that note, notice how Atomic weapons have been around for 57 years and have only been used once in warfare (As of the writing of this post). Do you think that is a coincidence that evil leaders of this world, that love genocide, have had nukes but never used them?

God created a perfect universe. Man freely chose to sin, and brought death into the universe, God made. God controls all things, but He also allows mankind to do what they want.

It’s called Free-Choice!

Chew on this: Murderers exist and strike where they please, but God stopped the murders that didn’t happen. Do you know the ratio of “Crimes” to “Crimes-Uncommitted”?

God is at work restraining evil. Can you honestly ask, “Why does God allow bad things to happen?" Can you ever know the horrendous atrocities God stopped from happening. You will never know how much He has restrained because He has restrained it!

God wants us to follow of our own will. Just like you want your parents/children/friends to love you of their own free will. Do you want your spouse to love you, only because you hypnotized her/him. Of course not!

Sum up: God give us free choice to follow Him or disobey Him.

People do follow Him and people don’t. People do good things and people do horrendous things. Who knows what evils God has stopped and what good He has allowed.

Do you believe?

God gave us the Ten Commandments to show that we are criminals in His holy eyes. That all are sinners and cannot hope to enter God’s presence.

Try this simple test, if you pass you can enter the Heaven with God’s blessing.

Step #1: Have you broke any of these laws?

  1. You shall have no other gods before Me.

  2. You shall not make no idols.

  3. You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain, for the Lord will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

  4. Observe the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

  5. Honor your father and your mother.

  6. You shall not murder.

  7. You shall not commit adultery.

  8. You shall not steal.

  9. You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

  10. You shall not covet.

Step #2: Put it through Jesus’ filter:

He says if you did any of these things in your heart you are still guilty.

For example:

Obsession of something (sports, money, etc) is considered a idol.

Hate is considered murder in the heart.

Lust is adultery in the heart.

How many have you broken?

Scoring:

0 – You are guiltless and may enter into heaven.

1 or more – You are guilty and destined for Hell and the Justice of God.

Don’t say “0” or you just broke the 9th commandment. Everyone of us have broke and re-broke those commandments. ALL of us are sinner and forever separated from God (←Notice I did not put a period here, because the story does not end here.)

Romans 3:19-20 → Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.

20 Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin

Stay tuned!

How then can anyone be saved?

Romans 3:21-26 → 21 But now the righteousness of God apart from the law is revealed, being witnessed by the Law and the Prophets,

22 even the righteousness of God, through faith in Jesus Christ, to all and on all who believe. For there is no difference;

23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

24 being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus,

25 whom God set forth as a propitiation(Def: The act of appeasing wrath and conciliating the favor of an offended person)by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed,

26 to demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the one who has faith in Jesus.

Jesus Christ, the sinless Son of God, died for Humanity’s sins and to prove it, rose again from the grave.

You are on a sinking boat. Reach out and take Christ’s hand.

1 John 1:9 → If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Romans 10:9 → ...that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

You are drowning; Jesus is reaching. What happens next is up to you!
